Only for a year, Elden Ring held the record for the most preordered video game in the history of GAMIVO. In February, Hogwarts Legacy, a new title set in Harry Potter’s Wizarding World, exceeded its results, becoming the new record holder.
Hogwarts Legacy was, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated releases of 2023. The game, developed by the Avalanche Software studio, allows players to create their characters and experience an original adventure within the walls of the famous school of witchcraft and wizardry. Thanks to such promising features, it had witnessed enormous expectations even before it was released. The number of preorders on GAMIVO proves the game’s popularity. Hogwarts Legacy recorded 30 percent more preorders than the former record holder, Elden Ring.
Hogwarts Legacy has met expectations, so both players and critics praise the game, boosting its sales. As a result, the game’s popularity grew even after its premiere. In the period covering the time before the premiere and the first week of the regular sale, Hogwarts Legacy sold 56 percent more copies than Elden Ring did in the corresponding span. The gap between Hogwarts Legacy and other 2022 bestsellers, such as FIFA 23 and God of War, is even wider.
Hogwarts Legacy was released on February 10, 2023. Therefore, we have a remarkably solid Game of the Year candidate, even though it’s only the first quarter. We’re sure that other competitors will join the race soon. In the following months, such titles as Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Lies of P, Street Fighter 6, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and the new Mortal Kombat will be released.
Elden Ring is the GAMIVO Game of the Year
The FormSoftware blockbuster lost the title for the most preordered game; however, thanks to the votes of GAMIVO users, it won the ballot for the best game of 2022. Elden Ring received 37 percent of the votes. God of War came in second with a result of 23 percent.
